The Power Move You Didn’t Know You Needed: Rest
In our go-getter society, we’re often told that rest is for the lazy or unmotivated. As ambitious, high-achieving women, we’ve got goals to crush and dreams to achieve. Who has time for rest, right? But what if I told you that rest isn’t about being lazy—it’s about being strategic?
The Trap of Hustle Culture
I’ve been there, caught up in the hustle culture, chasing success, accolades, titles, and influence. I thought if I could just do more, I’d finally be happy and content. But here’s the truth I’ve learned: that approach isn’t sustainable.
About 18 months ago, I hit a wall. I had achieved my 10-year goals in just three years, but I was exhausted, burned out, and heading to a place I didn’t want to revisit. I realized that while I had checked off all the boxes on my to-do list, the overwhelming sense of peace and fulfillment I expected wasn’t there.
The Power of Rest and Recovery
That’s when I discovered the power of rest. Not just as a break from work, but as a strategic move to enhance our productivity and well-being. Here’s what I’ve learned:
- Rest allows us to reconnect with our core values and rediscover our passion.
- Creativity thrives in relaxation, leading to fresh ideas and perspectives.
- Rest improves our relationships by allowing us to show up fully for others.
- Mental clarity and sharper focus come from a well-rested mind.
- Rest acts like a reset button, leading to improved productivity when we return to work.
Finding Balance in Seasons
Remember, there are seasons for everything in life. Just as scripture speaks of a Sabbath day, we need to incorporate rest into our lives regularly. We are human beings, not human doers.
Points to Ponder:
- Are you feeling burned out or constantly on edge? These might be signs you need rest.
- What would it look like to incorporate strategic rest into your life?
- How might prioritizing rest actually help you achieve your goals more effectively?
Scripture for the Soul:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
“Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die.” – Psalms 13:3 (NIV)
“In just a short time he will restore us, so that we may live in his presence.” – Hosea 6:2 (NIV)
These verses reminds us that rest is not just a physical need, but a spiritual one as well. God invites us to find rest, redemption, and restoration in Him.
