Have you ever felt like no matter how much you do, it’s never enough?
You push yourself to be perfect—to meet impossible expectations, to prove your worth, to finally feel seen, validated, and accepted. You tell yourself that if you just try a little harder, work a little longer, and do everything right, then maybe—just maybe—you’ll feel like you deserve success, happiness, or even rest.
I know this because I lived it. And I see you, because I was you.
But let me tell you something no one told me when I was caught in the cycle of chasing perfection: Perfection is a prison. And freedom begins when you let go.
The Truth About Perfectionism
Perfectionism isn’t just about high standards—it’s about fear. Fear of failure. Fear of judgment. Fear of not being enough.
And so we wear the mask. We hustle harder. We say “yes” when we want to say “no.” We live for the approval of others, all while secretly feeling exhausted, unfulfilled, and disconnected from who we really are.
But perfectionism is a lie.
- It tells you that your worth is based on what you do, not who you are.
- It convinces you that slowing down means you’re falling behind.
- It whispers that unless you get it all right, you’re not worthy of love, success, or joy.
But, Confident Woman, you were never meant to live enslaved to a false standard. This is a lie that, if we are not careful, can lead us down a slippery slope and into burnout.
How to Start Letting Go
This week, I want you to practice breaking free from perfectionism in these three simple ways:
Pause & Notice the Pressure – Every time you feel the urge to push harder, overwork, or get lost in overthinking, stop. Ask yourself: Is this coming from a place of love—or fear?
Challenge the Narrative – When your mind tells you, “If I don’t do this perfectly, I’ll fail,” challenge that thought. Is it true? What’s the worst that would happen if you simply did your best?
Choose Progress Over Perfection – Instead of aiming for perfect, aim for done. Aim for peace. Aim for alignment. Let yourself be a work in progress—because that’s exactly what you’re meant to be.
Points to Ponder
- Where in your life are you striving instead of surrendering?
- What are you afraid will happen if you stop trying to be perfect?
- What’s one small way you can give yourself grace this week?
Scripture for the Soul
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
Rest is not a reward for doing enough. It’s a gift you already deserve.
