Build a Business That Supports Your Life

Let me just say the thing nobody in the online business space will say.

Most of us built our businesses ass-backwards. Cart before the horse. Vision before foundation. Offer before clarity. And we were so busy hustling that we didn’t even notice until the whole thing cracked under the weight of a real life.

I noticed. And it cost me.

I looked up one day and realized I had become a slave to the very thing I built to set me free. The burnout, the anger, the bitterness — toward the business, toward the hustle, toward all of it.

What if your business was never supposed to be the main thing?

When I started building, I had this beautiful vision of the life I wanted and what I wanted to create and bring into the world. It came from a real place — looking back at my own struggles and thinking, if only I had these tools, these systems, someone who just handed me what I needed and said here, this is for you.

So I built. I did what I do. I created, produced, posted, emailed, launched. All of it. Constantly. Up early, you know #godandgoals, staying up late, sacrificing the moments, running a race I thought I could win.

And you know what I had to show for years of that?

A business that needed me for everything. An audience that liked me. Offers that weren’t really converting.

The problem wasn’t my effort. The problem was that I had built a business on top of my life instead of underneath it.

My business was sitting on top of everything. On top of my peace, my relationships, my health. And when life got hard — and it got really, really hard — the whole thing cracked because there was no foundation underneath it.

If the foundation to which you build your business, your brand, your life isn’t secure, it will crumble. Every single time.

3 Things That Changed How I Build Everything

We talk about freedom and flexibility all the time in this space. But we never get specific enough about what that actually requires. Here’s what finally made the difference.

1. Know what your life actually needs before you build a business to support it.

Not the highlight reel version. Not the life you’re going to have someday when everything is figured out. The actual life you’re living right now, with the caregiving, the emotional weight, the spiritual exhaustion, the days when you are just not okay.

When I got honest about what my life actually needed, the answer was simple. One offer. One platform. One funnel. One clear path forward. Not ten things pulling in ten directions with nothing converting.

A simpler business is not a smaller dream. It’s a smarter one.

2. Your business has to run on your worst days, not just your best ones.

My entire system used to be built on inspiration and energy. When I felt good, I showed up. When I didn’t, everything stopped. And life will always give you seasons where you don’t feel good. Grief doesn’t take days off. Loss doesn’t care about your content calendar. Trust me on that one.

So I started building real systems. Not complicated, overwhelming ones — simple, repeatable ones. This podcast episode becomes my newsletter, which becomes one full week of content. That’s it. The machine keeps running because the machine is simple enough to run even when I’m not at full capacity.

3. Stop performing your business and start living it.

I spent years performing. Performing confidence I didn’t always feel. Performing consistency while I was falling apart on the inside. Putting on the mask and showing up like everything was fine when it really wasn’t.

What changed everything was deciding that what I actually go through is the content. The rebuilding is the message. The woman who built something, lost the plot, and is finding her way back — that’s who I am, and that’s exactly who I’m talking to.

Your life is not a liability to your business. It’s the whole point.

Scripture for the Soul

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” — Proverbs 16:3

Not grind your work into the ground until you have nothing left. Not hustle until the plans show up. Commit it. Surrender it. Rest in it. What’s meant to be established will be established, and it won’t require you to destroy yourself in the process.

Points to Ponder

  1. What does your life actually need right now, and does your business structure support that or fight against it?
  2. Where are you performing your business instead of living it? What would change if you stopped?
  3. If your business had to run on your worst day this week, would it — or would everything stop?

If any of this hit close to home — the burnout, the bitterness, the business that needed you for everything — the problem was never your work ethic, your faith, or your vision. It was your foundation. And that can be fixed.

That’s exactly what The Freedom Framework is for. Not another thing to add to your plate. One clear, simple system to help you figure out what actually matters, strip away what doesn’t, and build something that can hold the weight of a real life. The one you’re actually living right now.
